On Reflection What we know is what we believe, as what we believe is what we know. It is when we stop knowing that we start Realizing What-IS so. Our knowing/believing and our conditioning are bedfellows. But man is the known. It is the unknown that he fears. The contents of his mind, the known, the conditioned ideas and images and meanings, is what he is. The unknown is what man can not fathom in his controlled and manipulated conditioned state for it is not knowable to him. To become intelligent we must learn something new each day, yet to be Wise we must forget something that we have leaned each day. Awakening is letting go of conditioned notions, Sleeping is gathering more. And we can not Wake-Up with concepts and conceptualizations and rationalizations and intellectualizations. IN the Silence we Hear, IN the Void we See, IN/AS Awakening we ARE. For no one Saves us but ourself, no one can and no one may, others can Point to the Path, but we ourself must Walk the Way. AUM, or any other derivative of the word that one would like to issue, is the pre-primordial Potential Sound of Silence initiating Potential Conscious manifesting form (the physical realm) via the Evolution/Involution of Potential Consciousness. The lull before the storm, so to speak. I AM refers to a state of BEing, BEing What-IS, AS it IS, without us projecting our conditioned ideas and images and meanings into/onto What-IS. The connection between the two (AUM and I AM) is that AUM is pseudo manufactured via Mantras to perhaps stimulate our Potential Awakening (Enlightenment) as a state of BEing (I AM). I use the term *pseudo manufactured* as indicating that we could never actually produce such a sound with our vocal cords. By way of Mantra we can stimulate the un-utterable Resonance IN our BEing, but the vocal sound, the word, the Mantra, is a manufacture by us. There are indeed as many offerings of the Understanding of AUM and I AM as there are pieces for confetti at a parade, but few understandings are worth much more than the confetti. Why ? Because we tend to project our own brand of conditioned notions into/onto our interpretations of most everything, which leads not to True Understanding. Siddhartha said in the Surangama Sutra, "You should sit in the place where you work toward enlightenment and dissolve away all thoughts. When thoughts are exhausted, then you are detached from thought, and everything is pure illumination that does not stir whether you are moving or still; that is the same whether you remember it or forget it. Abide in this place." And I will add: and you will Understand all that is Understandable and Realize all that is Realizable and Recognize all that is Recognizable. That is, pay Attention to the direction that fingers of Wisdom Point so you can Wok on yourself to BE the place that Siddhartha talked about and you will know the Truth of anything. IN the Silence we Hear, IN the Void we See, IN Awakening we ARE. You do not have to believe anything, just consider it and set it in the file of possibilities until you Directly Experience it for yourself. Then you will not have to believe it for you will have Realized to be so. In fact, that which was hidden or secret while Sleeping is actually quite obvious when Awakening. Your problem is that you do not Listen. You *hear* and understand but you do not Truly Listen. There is a vast difference between hearing and Truly Listening. You hear what is offered and understand it and even relate to it, but if it does not agree with your conditioned notions then you simply say to yourself, "that sounds true, but not really what I was looking for" and go on to something else that agrees more with your conditioned notions. In order for you to glean any Insights of Truth and Reality from any offering from anywhere from anyone, you will have to Openly and Honestly Listen and consider the offering without projecting your conditioned notions into/onto the offering. That is, lay yourself wide open to Change. A struggling Painful ordeal, but we must Crucify ourself on the Cross of Transcendence from a physical realm orientation to a non-conditioned orientation so we may Resurrect AS/IN Awakening. Because you do not allow it to "happen all the time". That is, you are too busy reacting to a given situation so you do not give yourself the opportunity to look at the situation AS it IS. Life is a series of events, actually quite Wondrous events even the seeming disastrous and disagreeable events. A Play of the ever ongoing Evolution/Involution of this manifested realm -- it Flows in and out and over and under, as we would knead dough for bread. So in this Play of Life we not only act out our role as elements of the physical realm but are so caught up in the character that we play that we miss the opportunity to Observe and Enjoy and Experience the Play. That is, we think we are the character in the Play. We fail to Realize that the Play will go on without us when our visit is over -- that we are but visiting actors and that the Play nor the characters are Actual. Life is a series of props and stages for us to Directly Experience in our Perfecting or Unfolding of the Actual. The Actual ? Our True Nature. All else is but a reflection of the Actual and is not totally Real because it is contrived by our conditioned ideas and images and meanings and notions, so we must not attach much value to it. Life is to Enjoy and Experience but not to cling to, because it is impermanent. This being the case, we are left with always Observing the folly in our trying to hold onto that which is worthless in the long run and simply do what must be done to Enjoy and Experience it for the short run, and let it go at that. Because you can not take it with you when your visit is over and it will not be where you left it on the return visit. So Dance the Cosmic Dance of Joy and Experience and smile at the little idiosyncracies in this Play of Life that you let distract you, that you let disturb you. The new born -- what is the perception ? Is it not Enjoy and Experience ? With no intent of selfishness ! Must we always be reminded that we "must be as little children" ? It is not that we are to do as children do, but rather the state of Open Honest Innocent Unselfish Inquiry that we must establish in ourself. Vincent, was your son not just Enjoying and Experiencing the video tapes, with no intention of selfishness on his part ? When the "possibility" of letting go of those cherished conditioned ideas and images and meanings that have Caused so much Pain and Suffering is preferential to all other "possibilities" that have been and are and will be, THEN............ you can start Awakening. To Realize THIS, you have already taken the first step away from THAT. Understanding THIS, you must make a Pact, a no loophole Pact, a Pact signed in blood, a Pact with yourself. A 100% Unconditional Open Honest Commitment to yourself that you will do what must be done to rid yourself of the Grand Trickster the conditioned mind. The battle is a tough one, but there is much Joy and Pleasure and Gratification in beating that old fiend. And each time you beat the Grand Trickster at one of his games, it gives you Strength to engage in further battles with the whimp. Arming ourself with Truth, he is a pushover. Jump in the ring Dear Friend. One of Ajahn Chah's disciples was once asked if he was ever going to disrobe, if he was going to die in the yellow robes. The disciple said that it was hard to think about, and that although he had no plans to disrobe, he could not really decide that he never would. When he looked into it, he said, his thoughts seemed meaningless. Ajahn then replied by saying, "That they are meaningless is the real Dharma". That is, to take either side or even to consider taking a side is Sleeping (meaningless). Awakening there are no sides, we simply do what must be done in a given set of circumstances at a given Moment. No consideration of right or wrong or good or bad, just doing what we must be doing IN any given Moment and doing it Moment to Moment. Neither side is good or bad or right or wrong, just meaningless because life is not cut and dry or black and white -- there are shades of grey that must be addressed at the Moment and not preconceived beforehand. Their regrets of the past and their plans of the future keeps them from doing what must be done NOW. Keeps them from Realizing that their regrets and their plans are meaningless. Keeps them from Realizing that what they do NOW will establish the foundation of their future. When they regret and plan NOW, when they fear and sorrow NOW, their future will be regrets and plans and fears and sorrows. When they do what must be done NOW, their future will not be regrets and plans and fears and sorrow. Their future will be Understanding What-IS. Not what was or what will be but rather What-IS at any given Moment. A confessional, a Realization, that few will admit to others............... and fewer that will admit it to themselves. The later being the Key. More, once we admit it to ourself we have to muster the fortitude to do something about it. Many will *sympathize* with you and appease you and offer ways to suppress it, here at this Community we *empathize* with you because we have been or are at the same stage of our Unfolding Awakening and so can support you in your battle with ridding yourself of it. Admitting it out loud is step one, step two is working on Transcending it. How ? One by one, idea by idea, image by image, meaning by meaning, notion by notion, we hold up to the Mirror of Truth and See the vile nature of our conditionings and let them go. Some will be easy to let go of, yet others will be difficult, and still others will cause much Pain to release. Most avoid the Pain and hold onto them. A few Realize that it is worth the Pain so that we can Enjoy the Dance, the Divine Cosmic Dance of Awakening. You can see it in their face, those who have endured the Pain and are Dancing the Divine Cosmic Dance of Awakening. That smirk, that laugh, crazily, they offer no words for there are none to describe the vacancy of the Grand Trickster, they just jump around Pointing. They are Free. They are Free to BE. IN the Silence they Hear, IN the Void they See, IN Awakening they ARE. There is no greater Joy, there is no greater Feeling, there is no greater Gratification, than True Clarity of Hearing and Seeing and BEing. For in such Clarity there is only Truth and Reality, there is only What-IS. Yet this is not to be *known* or *believed*, but rather Realized by ourself by "Just Doing It" and Hear/See/BE for ourself. Indeed, we are conditioned to require such props and gimmicks to do the work for us. We are conditioned to have someone else hand or sell Salvation to us. We understand that about ourself and therefore it is understood that it works for others. So we can make a handsome profit on it. But it is more than mere economic greed and the associated control and manipulation of others that goes along with it. It is a distraction. The same distraction that has been used to control and manipulate us since times immemerable. The only difference is that it is the *Age of Enlightenment* and many are being beguiled by the Gurus and Spiritual Teachers as a fad to enhance one's social acceptance. So instead of being mislead by the preachers and elders of organized religion we are now being mislead by the proponents of the *Enlightenment Game*. We are simply letting go of one belief system and holding on to another, so any seeming progress is in our mind. A still conditioned mind. And guess what, the Puppeteer is still the Grand Trickster. The baubles and trinkets sound nice when we walk but serve no other purpose other than letting others know we are coming, much like the cow-bell on the farm. People go for the *quick fixes*, the so called sacred items that will aid to Enlighten them, because they refuse to give up the Causes of the Suffering. It goes back to the age old problem of being too much of a task to Save ourself. They spend a small fortune on these so called Spiritual Items when what they really need is a 2x4 -- WHACK !!! Indeed it satisfies the Sleeping, but it also distracts those on the edge of Awakening. For the most part they can usually see through these schemes, but in their uncertainty they can waste a lot of time Dreaming and contriving Illusions for themselves due to these items to have to let go of eventually. Or worse, they can fall back to Sleep. The KeyNote: BE Mindful Wise Friend. 0====[::::::::::> Sword of Truth <::::::::::]====0 I perceive not, any attributes of Awakening. Awakening IS Sight, IS the Realization of What-IS, IS the purification of BEing, IS Insight, IS Light. The color of Wisdom IS the Peace and Tranquility of Truth and Reality. It is neither *this* nor *that*, but rather the unfettered unconditioned un-programmed Direct Experience of Truth and Reality AS it IS without our projected ideas and images and meanings attributed to it. What is happening around you is a sea of control and manipulation via conditioned thinking and behavior. We do flow with THAT. And before we can flow with Truth and Reality, we must stop flowing with the sea of control and manipulation via conditioned thinking and behavior by letting such notions go. The Grand Trickster is our conditioned ideas and images and meanings that Veil our Realization of Truth and Reality, not merely the ego. "As a man thinketh, so is he" -- so when we are of a conditioned mind we are programmed to perform in most predictable ways to given stimuli. We are controlled and manipulated by our perception of everything and anything, our likes and dislikes, our beliefs, our fears. We fool ourselves in thinking that a controlled mind practices non-control, as we fool ourselves in thinking that a conditioned mind can practice unconditioned thinking. So the first step in practicing non-control is to let go of our conditioned thinking that prevents us from BEing non-control. For non-control or non-conditioned is a State of BEing that we simply ARE and not simply something we do or practice. Imagine yourself being picked up by a giant and him physically pulling every finger from each hand and then pulling each hand from each arm and then pulling each arm from your body, then do the same to your toes and feet and legs, then the head. THAT would be like having a splinter in the finger compared to the Pain of letting go of ALL of our conditioned notions. The Pain is obviously great or more people would be doing it, because the Reward afterward is greater than being appointed successor to God when he retires (figuratively speaking of course). It comes with the territory of Awakening -- the small print stuff. Letting go of our conditioned Veils that hide our True Identity of Awakening from our Recognition is most Painful Dear Friend, and a process that even Siddhartha and Jesus and Muhammad and Confucius and all Wise Sages went through -- we all MUST go through it.
